I’ve done some more experimenting with WinXP and miserable gigabit performance. It was actually much more obvious than I thought. In all the testing done on windows, the firewall has always been disabled using the systray menu of kerio personal firewall.

This time, I explicitly disabled the service (aswell as the standard Windows ICS & Firewall). Lo and behold, 195Mbit/s…. Windows Filesharing suddenly gave a konstant 17 MiB/s. I also tried FileZilla for FTP transfers and reached peaks of 21MiB/s … However, FileZilla seems to have a very poor filereading implementation and suffered greatly from the file fragmentation (tested using a 4GiB file) and would go as low as 5MiB/s during the transfer. My guess is that FileZilla doesn’t implement memorymapped filehandling. The reason for this is that lftp compiled under cygwin would perform exactly the same as FileZilla, while samba showed a constant flow with predictable drops when the system would load new parts into memory.

Anyway, with that "problem" solved, I now how to find an alternative firewall which doesn’t suck the life out of my network adapter. Any suggestions? :-)

Good afternoon. I am more and more convinced that our happiness or unhappiness depends more on the way we meet the events of life than on the nature of those events themselves. Help me! I find sites on the topic: Square bathroom mirrors. I found only this - real debt relief. Bathroom cabinets mdf, ceramic top, mm. Please note that the diameter is at the widest point of the shade. Best regards  , Britta from Marshall.
